Στο βορειοδυτικό τμήμα της θεσσαλικής γης από τα πανάρχαια χρόνια υψώνονται επιβλητικοί, οι πέτρινοι γιγαντιαίοι βράχοι. Τα Μετέωρα, ανάμεσα στους ορεινούς όγκους της Πίνδου και των Αντιχασίων, κοντά στον Πηνειό ποταμό, μοιάζουν σαν να προστατεύουν την Καλαμπάκα και το Καστράκι. Η μοναστική ιστορία των Μετεώρων αρχίζει από τον 11ο αιώνα. Από τότε μέχρι και σήμερα, μέσα στις κοιλότητες των βράχων καταφεύγουν ασκητές από διάφορα μέρη της Ελλάδας, όπου στοχάζονται και προσεύχονται.
